What is School Social Work?

School Social Work is a specialized area of practice within the broad field of social work. 
 
School Social Workers are licensed through the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board.
 
School Social Workers are the link between school, the home and the community.  
 
Social Workers provide direct and indirect services to students, families and school personnel, while promoting and supporting students’ academic, social, emotional and behavioral success.  
 
School Social Workers strive to address and reduce the barriers that interfere with a student’s academic success.

School Social Work Involves:

  • Promotion of a positive school climate and culture conducive to student learning and teaching excellence
  • Addressing the needs of students & families
  • Promoting communication between school, home and community agencies
  • Collaborating with supporting school staff
  • Assisting staff to access
